Frequently Asked Questions

AHA BLS Heartcode

AHA BLS HeartCode is the American Heart Association's blended learning program for Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. It combines an online self-paced learning component with an in-person hands-on skills session. Students complete the cognitive portion online at their own pace, then attend a brief skills check with a certified AHA instructor to demonstrate their CPR competency and receive their certification card.

BLS certification is designed for healthcare professionals and anyone who may need to respond to cardiac or breathing emergencies in a professional setting. This includes nurses, doctors, medical assistants, EMTs, paramedics, dental hygienists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals. Many hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities require current BLS certification as a condition of employment.

The online portion of HeartCode BLS typically takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, depending on the student's pace. It includes video demonstrations, interactive activities, and a written knowledge assessment. Students can pause and resume at any time, making it flexible and convenient to fit into a busy schedule.

During the hands-on skills session, a certified AHA BLS Instructor will observe and evaluate your CPR technique using a manikin. You will demonstrate adult, child, and infant CPR, 2-rescuer CPR, bag-mask ventilation, infant choking, and AED use. The session typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes. You must successfully pass both the online and skills portions to receive your certification.

AHA BLS certification is valid for two (2) years from the date of completion. It is the student's responsibility to track their expiration date and renew before it lapses. Many employers require proof of a current, non-expired certification card, so we recommend renewing 30–60 days before your card expires.

That is exactly how HeartCode BLS is designed to work. You will receive your HeartCode access code, complete the online learning module at your own pace, and then schedule your in-person skills check with us. Please bring your online completion certificate or show your digital completion status at the time of your skills session.

When you register with us, we can provide you with your AHA HeartCode BLS online access code as part of your enrollment package. You will receive instructions via email on how to access the AHA learning platform and get started right away. Contact us if you already have an access code and we are happy to schedule your skills session separately.

Please bring a valid photo ID and your HeartCode online completion certificate (printed or digital). Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, as you will be kneeling on the floor to perform CPR on a manikin. If you have any physical limitations that may affect your ability to perform compressions or ventilations, please notify us in advance so we can make appropriate accommodations.

Upon successful completion of both the online and in-person skills components, your AHA BLS eCard (digital certification card) will be issued by the American Heart Association and sent to the email address on file. That typically happens within 24 hours. The eCard is the official AHA credential and is accepted at hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.

No Refund Policy

Kindly be aware that we adhere to a No Refund policy. Our dedication to fostering a more conducive learning environment involves maintaining smaller class sizes to optimize the instructor-to-student ratio. Cancellations have a negative impact on this commitment.
If unable to attend, consider rescheduling. If unable to reschedule and you have a colleague, friend, or family that you'd like to transfer your registration to, give us a call and we'll see how we can support you. Refer to our Rescheduling Policy for further details.

Rescheduling Policy

You have a 45-day window from the original course date to reschedule your class. If the rescheduled course is not successfully completed, it will be treated as a new registration, and a new class fee will apply. For all rescheduling/transfer transactions there is a $10 fee.

No Show

There is no refund for no-shows, and fees will be forfeited. In the case of absence, please notify the office to discuss options. A new registration and payment will be required for a future class.

Late Arrival and Class Closure

Please arrive five minutes early to minimize disruptions for fellow classmates, all classes close ten minutes after the scheduled start time. Unfortunately, late students will not be admitted.

If you do not successfully demonstrate all required skills, your instructor will provide remedial coaching and give you an opportunity to try again during the same session. If you are still unable to pass, we will work with you to schedule a follow-up skills check.

Absolutely. We offer group HeartCode BLS skills sessions for hospitals, clinics, dental offices, and other healthcare organizations. Group training can be scheduled at your facility or at our location, depending on the size of your team. Volume discounts may be available. Please contact us to discuss your organization's needs and to receive a custom quote.

HeartCode BLS is a fully AHA-accredited blended learning program, and the certification card issued is identical to that provided through a traditional in-person BLS class. It is accepted by the vast majority of hospitals, healthcare employers, and professional licensing boards. We recommend confirming with your employer or board if you have specific concerns, as policies can vary.

You can register directly on our website, call us, or send us an email. We are happy to answer any questions you have, help you choose the right class, or assist you in setting up group training for your team. We look forward to helping you get certified!
